They remind me so much of a club I use to regularly go to every weekend by the name of Numbers in Houston, TX. They would have this gothic night on Easter sunday and resurect a naked Jesus with gogo dancers that looked like they were from My Life With The Thrill Kill Kult!!

Re: La Sera

I wish I was a girl so that I could rock that sweater!!

Re: Dr. Octagon

All links are down, thereturnofdoctoroctagon site is down, the host worlds-fair is down.

Beautiful you're reviewing Nada Surf. I especially liked the Bee-Gees-Like Vocals on When I Was Young, but also on Waiting For Something. But my favourite is No Snow On The Mountain, not only because of the line "Baby, I've only got summer tires."...

Re: Bears

What an awesome song, I've never even heard of Bears... which probably says more about me than them. Thanks for posting this though! Between them and Jesse Thomas' new album War Dancer, February 14th is gonna leave me broke... and then there's that whole Valentine's Day thing : /

And I geek on it for many more reasons besides the Raymond Carver reference....I could be wrong, but I haven't heard a band drop as many cultural references since Lloyd Cole and the Commotions' "Rattlesnakes." The album is smothered with a similar literariness--not just the name-dropping, but their lyrical prowess as well. Then there's the infectious beat and sing-a-long chorus that leave me snap happy.

One other reason: they share many vocal and sonic qualities with this really obscure 80s band called 3-D. I believe they only released one self-titled album. The one wonder from that album is "X-Ray Eyes."
